Sellers Humanities 3&4 2-7-20 In this day and age, dogs are called ‘man’s best friend’. According to a “National Pet Owners Survey” made by the American Pet Products Association (APPA) for 2019-2020 states that about 63.4 million houses own a dog, and 42.7 million houses own a cat. Americans usually much prefer owning a dog over a cat. But cats are far better to own than dogs. Although many people own and love dogs, cats are far superior to dogs as pets. Many Americans in the United States of America own a dog, and people often seem to love dogs quite a lot due to how much people spend money on dogs in a single month. According to the article, “Americans Like Dogs More Than Cats for One Simple Reason” from Inverse by Coleen P. Krik, States that owners of dogs were spending $420 a month on dogs at the time of this article in 2019. That is around $5,000 per year that is spent on a dog. In the same article, in the section “Master or Servant”, paragraphs 2 and 3, it states, “People feel ownership because they perceive that they can control their pets’ behavior. This research even distinguishes the type of control that probably most stimulates ownership feelings. It’s not just physical control, such as being able to pick up an animal or drag it by a leash. Rather, it’s the animal’s voluntary compliance with its owner’s wishes. No matter how cute and cuddly your kitties may be, they can’t compete with dogs when it comes to giving pet owners the sense of mastery they seek.” This basically states that dog owners love dogs more for its compliant behavior to them. This is the same for many people as 63.4 million households own a dog and many love their pet. There may be more reasons as to why people love dogs, but these are two things that many dog owners share when it comes to their dogs. Though dogs are great and a good deal of people love them, cats are better pets than dogs ever will be. Unlike dogs, Cats are capable of taking better care of themselves than dogs can and therefore don’t take up as much of your time. In an article called “15 Reasons Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs” by Ari Notis, it states 15 reasons why cats are better than dogs. In many of the reasons it makes of why cats are better than dogs, it shows that cats are better at taking care of themselves as they clean themselves, they can hunt for food, which in turns gets rid of unwelcome visitors in your house, and you don’t have to take the time to walk them like a dog. This can save much time in the day to get more productive things done. In the article, paragraph 5, it states, “According to the Animal Humane Society, average adoption fees for kittens and cats start at $32 and can run as high as $270. For dogs and puppies, however, fees start at $115, but go all the way up to $660!” Cats don’t cost as much as a dog either, meaning you can have more money than if you were to own a dog. Cats also show more love towards a human that they have “warmed up to”. In a study in 2017, it shows that cats love their humans more than most other things, including catnip and food. The article also states that they love you because you “earned it” rather than love you because they love all humans. Cats are far superior to dogs because they can care for themselves, don’t cost as much and love you because you earned it. Dogs are complete opposites of these and take up more of your time and don’t love you just because you are who you are, they just love everyone. This is why cats are superior to dogs. |

Benally Proposal: Social Media Political Cartoon [subtitle that helps describe the project] Area of Research Explain the area of research you have noticed that needs to be addressed with a project like yours. This is also your hook, so make sure you grab our attention. The area of research I have chosen is Social Media. I have chosen to explore this topic because I have heard of social media for most of my life, and it seems to be a big aspect of a lot of people’s lives. I however find it unimportant and have a different view of it, so I wish to research more on it and perhaps share my view of social media to others in the community. Audience / Clients / Users Explain who will benefit from your project. How will you be able to access them for an empathy interview? I believe people of all ages with a bad addiction to social media can benefit from my project. Or become more consciously aware of the dangers social media has on us. As far as an interview goes, however, I am uncertain as to how I would get in contact with someone for an interview. Timeline What is your Weekly timeline for this project? I want to see a list of deliverables with deadlines. You may find that the timeline needs adjustment during the course of the project which may be fine. Check in with me if that’s the case. Examples of deliverables: Research Notes, Interviews, Drafts, Critique, ______________ Week 1 Deliverables Begin Research Week 2 Deliverables Research Week 3 Deliverables Writing, Critique Week 4 Deliverables Writing, Critique, Drawing Political Cartoon Week 5 Deliverables Drawing Political Cartoon Product What is the actual product you will show? I’m not interested seeing a bunch of great ideas at the end of the this. I want to see things that are designed for specific audiences--preferably not just me. The product I plan on making for this project is a political cartoon to be published in a paper. So far my plan is to make a cartoon about social media and my view on it. This plan, I believe, still needs refinement, but I do believe I have a good start so far. Reality Check I am looking for moonshots here, but even moonshots need budgets. What equipment are you going to need? What other capital expenditures do you anticipate, and how will you meet them? I’m not entirely sure what equipment I am going to need. I already have what I assume I would need for drawing a political cartoon. So as far as expenses go, I think I might be good. Conclusion Wrap it up. Why are you fired up about this project? Inspire us to support you, and give us a great reason to approve your project. I’m fired up over this project because it’s an exciting new experience that I have never done before. It has given me the opportunity to reach out more to the people in the community. This project has gotten me excited to research and study a new topic I haven’t before thought would be important to research or understand in my life. I cannot wait to get this project on a roll. |
