El Proyecto de Mi Inmigrante
The purpose of this project in Spanish was to teach us how to properly conjugate our words in Spanish to be in the past tense. We wrote about one of our ancestors or some other person who immigrated. The project was meant to help us connect with our ancestors and where we came from, or just to prove that everyone came from somewhere. We wrote about our person's life and had to make sure we were using the correct endings for our words to make the writing in the past tense. The words could have been imperfect or Preterit depending on how we were using the word, and the ending could change depending on who we were talking about in the context of the word.
For my project, I wrote about my 10 times great grandfather, William Whiting. William was from England and moved to the United State, who were the British Colonies at the time, sometime around 1633. He helped found the city Hartford in the Colony of Connecticut. He was a merchant with a trading house by the Delaware Rive, and a treasurer and magistrate of Hartford.
El Proyecto de Dia de los muertos
Dia de los Muertos is a celebration for the dead. Dia de los Muertos comes from an Aztec festival that celebrated death that now has Catholic influence. It is generally celebrated in Mexico. On this day, altars are usually made and altars and tombs are decorated for dead loved ones. The AHS Spanish classes celebrated Dia de los Muertos to honor this holiday.
For Dia de los Muertos, we completed 2 projects in class. For the first project, we had to write an obituary for a dead loved one for our altar at school and decorate the altar so they could come and visit on the Dia de los Muertos. For the second project, we had to write a Calavera. The Calavera is a poem and art work that shows a skeleton doing something in relation to their death.
